Description

KAmod Level Shift x4 - Bidirectional, 4-channel logical level converter

The KAmod Level Shift x4 module is a logical level converter that allows you to connect electronic systems powered by different voltages, e.g. 5 V and 3.3 V. The module provides 4 bidirectional paths that can work with digital signals with a voltage from 1.8 V to 5 V. It will work perfectly as a level converter in the I2C bus.

Basic parameters
  • 4 bidirectional signal paths
  • Designated path sections for lower (LV) and higher (HV) voltage signals
  • Each section can operate with digital signals with voltage from 1.8 V to 5 V, but the condition of HV > LV voltages must be met
  • Operates with an I2C bus clocked at 1 MHz
  • Leads matched to a grid with a standard 2.54 mm pitch
  • Small dimensions of 15.7x10.7 mm

Standard Equipment
Code Description
KAmod Level Shift x4
  • Assembled and started module
  • 2 x straight goldpin strip 6-pin raster 2.54 mm

Schematic
Logic level converter power supply

Description Function
HV Power supply input (+) of the higher voltage signal section
LV Power supply input (+) of the lower voltage signal section
G power supply ground, common for HV and LV (-)

The supply voltage of the first digital system should be connected to the HV and G terminals - the one with the higher voltage, e.g. 5 V. Digital signals with a voltage of up to 5 V can be connected to terminals 1...4 on the HV side.

The supply voltage of the second digital system should be connected to the LV and G terminals - the one with the lower voltage, e.g. 3.3 V. Digital signals with a voltage of up to 3.3 V can be connected to terminals 1...4 on the LV side.

For the KAmod Level Shift x4 level converter to operate correctly, the voltage on the HV side must be higher than the voltage on the LV side.

Signal layout on the board

Designation Function
1...4 (HV) 4 bidirectional signal paths for a system with a higher operating voltage
1...4 (LV) 4 bidirectional signal paths for a system with a lower operating voltage
G signal ground, common for HV and LV

4 bidirectional signal paths on the HV side are connected to 4 bidirectional signal paths on the LV side.
