Description

KAmod ProtoSupply - Universal power supply for breadboards

KAmod ProtoSupply is a universal power supply module for breadboards. It is powered via USB-C from a classic USB power supply/charger and provides two independent supply voltages. The first output can be set to 3.3 V, 5 V, 9 V or can be smoothly regulated with a potentiometer in the range of 2.5...10.5 V. The second output allows you to set the value of 5 V or 12.5 V. The power converters used provide protection against overload and short circuit of the outputs. The design of the module is adapted to standard breadboards, in which the power rails are spaced approx. 41 mm apart.

Basic features and parameters
  • Power supply via USB-C connector from a classic USB power supply/charger (recommended voltage min. 5.0 V, recommended current min. 2 A)
  • The first output (V1) can be set to the voltage:
    • 3.3 V ±5%,
    • 5 V ±5%,
    • 9 V ±5%,
    • or can be smoothly regulated with a potentiometer in the range of 2.5...10.5 V ±5%,
  • The second output (V2) allows you to set the voltage:
    • 5 V ±5%,
    • 12.5 V ±5%
  • Voltage values set with an accuracy of 5%
  • The maximum load of the outputs at voltages below 5 V is 0.3 A, and temporarily 0.5 A (depending on the parameters of the USB power supply)
  • The maximum load of the outputs at voltages above 5 V is about 0.3 A (depending on the parameters of the USB power supply)
  • The power converters used include protection against overload, overheating and short circuit of the outputs
  • Easy-to-use main power switch

Power outputs

KAmod ProtoSupply is equipped with two power outputs, marked as V1 and V2. The available voltages are shown in the table below:

Designation Function
V1 (J4) It is an output for one of the voltages (selected by setting the J1 jumper):
  • 3.3 V,
  • 5 V,
  • 9 V
  • smoothly adjustable with a potentiometer in the range of 2.5...10.5 V
V2 (J7) It is an output for one of the voltages

(selected by setting the J5 jumper):

  • 5 V (voltage connected to the USB-C socket),
  • 12.5 V (from the voltage boost converter)

The presence of voltages is indicated by LEDs - D1 for V1 and D2 for V2. The arrangement of the pins supplying voltages V1 and V2, along with the marked voltage polarity, is shown in the figure below:

The pins are mounted on the bottom side of the board, which allows easy mounting of the module on a breadboard.

Setting the output voltages

The values of the V1 and V2 voltages are set using jumpers placed on the appropriate pins.

Description Function
J1 pins Allows you to select the voltage value at the V1 output (3.3 V, 5 V, 9 V or adjustable in the range of 2.5...10.5 V)
J5 pins They allow you to select the voltage value at the V2 output (5 V or 12.5 V)
ADJ potentiometer Allows you to set the voltage at the V1 output in the range of 2.5...10.5 V

The layout of J1 and J5 pins is shown in the figure below. For each section - V1 and V2, the jumper can be placed on only one pair of pins. The available configurations and their corresponding voltages are marked in the figure, and on the power supply module board.

Setting the V1 section in the ADJ configuration allows for smooth regulation of the V1 voltage value in the range of 2.5...10.5 V using the ADJ potentiometer.

The power converters used in the module contain protection against overload, overheating and short circuit of the outputs. The operation of the protections is manifested by reducing the voltages V1 and/or V2, or complete voltage loss.

Note - the V2 output in the 5V (USB) configuration is not protected by the mentioned protections - the parameters of this output are determined solely by the parameters of the power supply/charger connected to the USB-C connector.

Power

KAmod ProtoSupply is powered via USB-C connector from a standard USB power supply/charger. The input voltage should be in the range of 5...5.2 V and the input current should not be less than 2 A. The module's power supply is switched on with the SW1 rocker switch.

Designation Function
USB-C (P1) Power is supplied to the module via the USB-C connector
Power switch (SW1) Rocker switch allows convenient switching on/off of the main power supply

The main power supply input is additionally protected by a polymer fuse F1 with a rated current of 3.5 A.

Dimensions

The dimensions of the KAmod ProtoSupply module are 49.3x29.1 mm. The output voltage pins V1 and V2 are spaced 41.2 mm apart, which corresponds to the layout of the sockets on a standard breadboard.
